CERN

The CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research is one of the world’s most prestigious scientific laboratory. By studying what happens when these particles collide, physicists learn about the laws of Nature. The CERN has 20 member states that contribute to the budget of the Organization; they are represented at the Council, and are in charge of taking the important decisions about the Organization and its activities. The scientists of about 580 institutes and universities throughout the world use the installations of the CERN.
The Finance and Human Resources departments have chosen to adopt the Managment Cockpit method. “We have a lot of information in our databases but until now we didn’t have the right tool to help us in the exploitation of these data from a global point of view. The Mangement Cockpit will allow us to do this”, explains James Purvis, Cockpit Officer of the Human Resources department. They choose to create an Oracle database fed by different integrated management softwares. The CockpitSuite software generates the KPI’s that are at the disposal of the users through a Linux Server. The implementation of the project is a result of a close collaboration between the CERN internal resources and the Management Cockpit team.
